Here's an Unusual triple Bam strike.
Strikes on the quarter hour, using only two trains! (One going, and the other strike) Lots
of rust and corrosion!

Note
the reinforced plate over the strike barrel (Barrel actually extends forward of the plate)
After studying this movement for some time, I
discovered that the person who designed and built this movement was either a genius or
insane. Behind the snail and hour gear on the motion works, there is another snail, this
one with only four steps. And behind this is a gear with a pin that left me puzzled for a
long time. At first I thought it was for a half hour strike, but after getting the
movement cleaned, it didn't work as I expected. Then it finally dawned on me. The pin
isn't for the passing half hour strike, but is used to set up the hourly strike. The pin
engages the lever located on the left side of the movement. As this moves, the lever
raises, physically retracting two of the strike hammer arbors. This allows the
remaining hammer to sound the hours.
The purpose of the remaining four-stepped gear behind
the strike snail leaves me perplexed. I can only assume it was used for the remaining
strike hammer arbor, or related to the rack in some way.
All three hammers work off of the
star gear, requiring no additional gearing. It was not easy setting up the star gear to
coincide with the gathering pallet.

Picture of the Strike Spring, and its condition,
rusted solid, broken in five places. Spring looks too narrow and may have been the wrong
size. Note the distended shape of the barrel on the right.
