Back Home Up Next

This is my next project clock. I picked this one up at an auction at the local NAWCC chapter (Chapter 59). Infested with Powder Post beetles, this clock was fumigated with moth balls.  I have all the wood pieces that  came off this clock, and what I thought would be a simple matter of putting it back together turned out to be anything but easy.

Here is the before picture.

Here's the face of the clock

Powder Post beetles can do a lot of damage. As can be seen here, they have really done a number on the front door. (I have the missing wood pieces, but even this is going to require some additional support.) Worst infestation of bug I've ever seen
Side view showing where trim broke off. Will require some glue removal (viva vinegar!) and then some good wood glue.

Despite the nasty fall the clock took some time ago, the glass is still intact. (Several minor chips along the lower edge, but shouldn't show when restored)

If you look close, you can see the door is split (damn bugs!)
