Although not a true Wag on Wall type clock, Morbier clocks were originally made by a clock smith who sold the clock to either the individual, or to a carpenter who would construct a 'Grandfather' style case for the clock. These cases often were home made affairs, and although examples of these rather creative and distinctive cases can be found, it is becoming more and more common to find these clocks without a case. Their distinctive features lend a pleasing appearance to any decor, and take up far less room than the bulky case.

Morbier clock without case

The motif on this clock is that of a bird protecting its nest from a snake in a tree. I don't know what this is supposed to symbolize. This is a calendar clock, missing the day hand. It does run, but it needs to be taken apart and reassembled again. The face needs a good cleaning and the brass ornaments need some work. There are two screws (of the wrong style and size) holding the face on.

It is missing a shutter door on the left. All the steel parts do have pitting, but seems to be of sound construction. Gong strike with repeat. The gong is mounted to a board on the back, probably from the original case.
